چکیده

This paper is concerned with the robust identiication of patches from simple geometric surfaces such as planes, spheres, and cylinders. This is done from 3D data acquired using a range scanner, along with principal quadric estimates at each point. Properties of the Gaus-sian and mean curvature (e.g., their sign) at points on surfaces of the target class are used to reject all points that could not be on such a surface. Each remaining point is then mapped to the parameters of the unique surface in its class that contains it, if it were on such a surface. Region growing and clustering techniques are used to identify those points actually on a surface of the target class and to extract the surface parameters.

The perception of 3-D shape from shadows cast onto curved surfaces.

In a natural environment, cast shadows abound. Objects cast shadows both upon themselves and upon background surfaces. Previous research on the perception of 3-D shape from cast shadows has only examined the informativeness of shadows cast upon flat background surfaces. In outdoor environments, however, background surfaces often possess significant curvature (large rocks, trees, hills, etc.), a...

Affine Reconstruction of Curved Surfaces from Uncalibrated Views of Apparent Contours

in this paper, we consider uncaiibrated reconstruction of curved surfaces from apparent contours. Since apparent contours are not fixed features (viewpoint independent), we cannot directly apply the recent resuits of the uncaiibrated reconstruction from fixed features. We show that, nonetheless, curved surfaces can be reconstructed up to an affine ambiguity from their apparent contours viewed f...

Recognising rotationally symmetric surfaces from their outlines

Recognising a curved surface from its outline in a single view is a major open problem in computer vision. This paper shows techniques for recognising a signiicant class of surfaces from a single perspective view. The approach uses geometrical facts about bitangencies, creases, and innections to compute descriptions of the surface's shape from its image outline. These descriptions are unaaected...

Semi-Analytical Solution for Free Vibration Analysis of Thick Laminated Curved Panels with Power-Law Distribution FG Layers and Finite Length Via Two-Dimensional GDQ Method

This paper deals with free vibration analysis of thick Laminated curved panels with finite length, based on the three-dimensional elasticity theory. Because of using two-dimensional generalized differential quadrature method, the present approach makes possible vibration analysis of cylindrical panels with two opposite axial edges simply supported and arbitrary boundary conditions including Fre...

Quasi-Static Transient Thermal Stresses in an Elliptical Plate due to Sectional Heat Supply on the Curved Surfaces over the Upper Face

This paper is an attempt to determine quasi-static thermal stresses in a thin elliptical plate which is subjected to transient temperature on the top face with zero temperature on the lower face and the homogeneous boundary condition of the third kind on the fixed elliptical curved surface. The solution to conductivity equation is elucidated by employing a classical method. The solution of stre...
